The Lower Cape Fear Coin Club [LCFCC] was founded in 1963 by twelve charter members for a dual purpose that continues unchanged.
[1] The club provides a forum for members interested in numismatic fellowship, buying and selling coins, currency, and similar materials, and related history and information.
[2] We also promote numismatics throughout the greater Wilmington, NC, community through coin shows and other means to educate the public on the hobby of coin collecting.
The club is a long time member of and supports the American Numismatic Association and the North Carolina Numismatic Association. We do not perform appraisals, broker sales, or perform other functions normally associated with the business of legitimate dealers. The club is governed by a Constitution and Bylaws and is incorporated in the State of North Carolina.
Club Organization and Community Activities.
The LCFCC annually elects five officers (president, VP, treasurer, secretary, and sergeant-at-arms) and up to four other directors. If not otherwise elected, the newsletter editor and current year's bourse chair also serve as directors. The club runs on a calendar year basis and publishes a monthly newsletter, Coinfusion.
Coins shows comprise the major portion of our community outreach and education, but the club also provides additional services. We contribute numismatic literature to local libraries, especially Randall Library at UNCW, where a significant numismatic reference library is available to the public.
The club has also held joint programs with the Cape Fear Museum for the public to identify numismatic items from junk to treasure, and club members speak before community groups and publish in the numismatic literature. We are currently seeking to expand our support of numismatics throughout the Cape Fear area.
