Club Organization
LCFCC members annually elect five officers (president, VP, secretary, treasurer and sergeant-at-arms) and up to four other directors. A bourse is the general public area of a coin show, often called the bourse floor, where monetary transactions take place in the buying and selling of coins and related materials. The club runs on a calendar basis and publishes a monthly newsletter, Coinfusion.
Coin shows comprise a major portion of our community outreach and education. The main coin show is a component of the annual North Carolina Azalea Festival, which occurs at Wilmington in mid-April. The club has sponsored a coin show as one of the festival's major activities since 1970. Recent shows have included displays of historic interest, feature exhibits, literature and raffles. About 40 dealers populate the bourse floor. At times the club may also run a fall show.
We contribute numismatic literature to local libraries, especially to Randall Library at UNCW. Club members are also available to speak before community groups, and we frequently publish in numismatic literature.
Meetings
The LCFCC currently meets monthly, except August, on the second Wednesday of the month. We meet at McAlister's Deli located at 740 South College Road in Wilmington from 6-8pm. Meetings feature club updates, numismatic presentations, a 50-50 raffle and an auction at the end for items members wish to sell. The presentations include discussions of wide ranging interests, such as collecting strategies, grading, values, minting, buying and selling collections, and more. Programs often highlight a member's special interests in collecting or researching a given type of coin, paper money or other numismatic interest.
The Board of Directors meets separately, and agenda items cover club business, presentation topics, special ordering from the US Mint, and proposals relating to the clubs operations.
